Frequently Asked Questions
WHY CHOOSE WOODLANDS KINDERGARTEN?
The Kindergarten has a proud record of delivering high quality kindergarten programs for more than 40 years. Woodlands kindergarten is rated as ‘Exceeding’ the National Quality Standards in all 7 areas of assessment. We are a community based kindergarten fostering a sense of belonging.
We have experienced teachers who are passionate about their job and the children they educate and are continually striving for excellence and innovative ideas. Our teacher leader has the highest teaching classification possible of ‘exemplary status’.
We have a wonderful facility - both inside and out. Our backyard is a wonderful, private large play space away from the street, enabling children to express wonder, interest and exploration in their environment. We even have some chickens in residence and a worm farm.
We are an active part of the Ocean Grove community and have strong relationships with local businesses and schools.
WHAT PROGRAMS DO YOU OFFER AT WOODLANDS?
The Kindergarten is committed to learning through play as we believe this is the best way children learn. Some of our programs include: bush and beach kinder, a wide range of excursions and incursions, indigenous and other cultures, music, structured sports, brain gym, yoga, cooking, science, safety awareness (road, water, fire, dog, stranger, SeeMore, Bravehearts) and drama.
IS THERE ANY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WOODLANDS KINDERGARTEN AND WOODLANDS HOUSE CHILDCARE?
No, Woodlands Kindergarten was established in 1976 many decades before Woodlands House Childcare was set up. Woodlands Kindergarten is a separate organisation from Woodlands House Childcare. In some circumstances, Woodlands House is able to collect children from Woodlands Kindergarten where they are cared for by the childcare for the rest of the day.
I'VE HEARD THAT IF I SEND MY CHILD TO WOODLANDS KINDERGARTEN HE / SHE WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO ATTEND OCEAN GROVE PRIMARY SCHOOL AS IT IS VERY CLOSE TO THE KINDERGARTEN?
No, children from Woodlands attend many different primary schools including: Star of the Sea, Ocean Grove, Surfside Wallington, Leopold, Christian College and Geelong College. In fact, Woodlands has a great relationship with all of the local schools. We help ensure the transition of our children into school is smooth, positive and effective.
IS WOODLANDS A LARGE KINDERGARTEN?
Woodlands is a one unit Kindergarten with 3 staff members and a very large beautiful playground.
The smaller scale of the Kindergarten means children and families get to know the teachers really well. It also makes for great relationships between families.
I MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN SENDING MY CHILD TO WOODLANDS, CAN I TAKE A TOUR OF THE KINDERGARTEN?
